This painting depicts a Crow Indian man, face forward, wearing blue face paint, a war shirt, and holding a quirt across his left shoulder. The Crow tribe are native to the Montana re-gion of North America. The war shirt is authentic, hanging in the Peabody Museum, Harvard University, Boston, Massachusetts. The quirt, or whip, resides in the San Diego Museum of Man.
